Abstract

Barça, més que un club: the Roots of blaugrana’s Catalanism within Spanish growing Sportification

Since its emergence, the Barcelona FC has been bonded with a Catalanist feeling. This article explores the origins of this connection, especially focusing on the Francoist period. The Barça’s leadership supported the Catalonia’s autonomy at the beginning of the twentieth century, while during the dictatorship the blaugrana club entered the collective imagination as an Antifrancoist icon. Nevertheless, the government management of the events linked to this club help us to understand Franco’s ability in handling the internal contradictions of the dictatorship.

Daniele Serapiglia

Daniele Serapiglia è ricercatore afferente all’Instituto de História Contemporânea da Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas dell’Universidade Nova de Lisboa e ricercatore-collaboratore del Centro de Estudos Interdisciplinares do Século XX dell’Universidade de Coimbra. Ha conseguito il titolo di dottore di ricerca presso il Dipartimento di Storia Culture Civiltà dell’Università di Bologna, dove è stato assegnista fino al maggio 2016. È autore de La via portoghese al corporativismo (Roma, 2011); ha curato Il fascismo portoghese. Le interviste di Ferro a Salazar (Bologna, 2014) e nel 2016 il volume Tempo Libero, Sport e Fascismo per la collana dei quaderni della rivista “Storicamente.org”.
