Fascism Outside Italy: the Pirámide de los Italianos, its Political Use and the Online Public Debate

Contested memory and the political use of history: this duo is well present in the case of the Pirámide de los Italianos, a monument erected in the municipality of Valle de Valdebezana and inaugurated in 1939 to commemorate the fascists fallen in the battle for Santander. The Ley de la Memoria Democrática of 2022, after years of oblivion, has put it back at the center of public debate, fostering the intervention of Italian politics: declared an asset of cultural interest by the autonomous community of Castilla y León, in the hands of the Populars and Vox party, online opinions on the matter are in line with the Zeitgeist.
