Abstract

The First Exile. Spanish libertarians in France before the Second Republic

In recent years, the exile of Spanish republicans after the civil War (1936- 1939) has been extensively studied. However, for plenty of militants of Con- federación Nacional del Trabajo trade union and of the libertarian movement in general, exile was no new experience. Since the historians of the libertarian work- ers’ movement have focused on more important later historical events, for exam- ple the Second Republic and the civil War, no research has dealt specifically with the attempts made by these exiles in France to organize to keep their ideals and hopes alive.
