Seeking revolution from factories. An introduction to ORT trade union policy between the end of Francoism and early Transition
This article explores the development of the participation of ORT, a Maoist party established in 1970, into Comisiones Obreras. The first part examines mainly its “left-wing” criticism to the line imposed by the PCE to the new workers’ movement, regarded as reformist and not revolutionary. The second part analyzes how in the early Transition ORT left CCOO: their structuring into a Trade Union Confederation was opposed by the Maoist party who argued for a unitary trade union, created from grassroots meetings in each factory and capable of attracting the majority of workers.
