Barcelona: the Popular Neighborhoods, the “Malavita” and a First Comparison with Milan and Marseille (1898-1936)
The article reconstructs a history of the Barcelona neighborhood crime between 1898 and 1936. The author proposes an analysis focused mainly on the crimes committed and their social motivations, mentioning the relations between the proletariat, the labor movement, the anarchists and their organizations on the one hand and the criminals on the other. It analyzes at the same time how the institutions, and in particular the police and the courts, faced illegality also in relation to what was happening at the same time in the cities of Milan and Marseille.
