Abstract
“Ángeles del hogar”. Il prototipo femminile nella stampa liberale madrilena di fine Ottocento
During the second half of the nineteenth century, the Spanish woman archetype has shown a progressive modification and a gradual definition with specific characteristics, highlighting often new and binding categories. The discussion about these topics, the change of the correlated stereotypes throughout the acquiring of a gender consciousness, the feminine disapproval or silent consent to a hierarchical and sexist society, are clearly revealed in the period press, that became maybe the most significant historical source for checking the building of the collective imagination about women. Therefore, a study of men’s and women’s contributions devoted to the nueva cuestión palpitante, as they were published on the most representative liberal newspapers, allow an interesting representation of the feminine identity, according to its complexity and different nuances.
