The Movement for the Fourth International and the Spanish Civil War
This essay examines the policy followed in relation to the Spanish Civil War by the governing bodies of the Movement for the Fourth International (MQI), the International Secretariat and the International Bureau. In line with the vision of Lev D. Trotsky, the leaders of the MQI promoted an extremely critical policy against the strategy of the main Iberian anti-Stalinist Marxist party, the Partido Obrero de Unificación Marxista (POUM), which was followed by the two missions that the MQI sent to Spain in 1936 and 1937 (headed respectively by Jean Rous and Erwin Wolf) and led to a break in relations not only with the POUM but also with one of the main parties in favor of the Fourth International, the Dutch Revolutionair-Socialistische Arbeijderspartij, without however, he was in solidarity with the policy adopted by the POUM.
