Abstract

“Garibaldinism” in Spain in nineteenth century

This essay deals with “garibaldinism” and its influence on Spain in the nineteenth century. The relationships between the Italian and Spanish revolutionists are here being explored with respect to one of the Spanish volunteers who reached Italy in order to join the Garibaldi’s Legions, Leonardo Sanchez Deus, a man who was to play a certain role within the democratic movement in Florence. In their turn, also the Italian “garibaldini” took part in the defence of the first Spanish republic against the Carlists in 1873, as well as they fought in France against Prussian imperialism.
