Abstract

Secret Societies as Sectas Tenebrosas: la Junta Reservada de Estado (1823- 1833)

This article outlines the hermeneutics of clandestine subversion during the Second Spanish Absolutist Restoration. The issue is investigated using the documentation produced by the Junta reservada de Estado in particular, a repressive organ established by Fernando VII. Thus, the analysis of these sources will allow us to observe the permeability of images, interpretations, and representations which have produced a determined typification of sectarianism, favouring a vilification of political dissidence and its persecution.
