Abstract

The Spanish role in the EEC/EU – Latin America relations

This essay, based on archival documentation, analyzes the changes occurred when Spain started participating in the relations between the EEC and Latin America. Previous relations are also tackled, in order to understand the reasons behind both the Community’s lack of interest in this respect and the Spanish contribution to the Common Foreign Policy. The historiographical underestimation of previous relations between the EEC and LA has prevented an accurate insight into the significance of the role played by Spain to strengthen them.

Giuliana Laschi, insegna Storia contemporanea e dell’Integrazione Europea presso l’Università di Bologna. È titolare di una Cattedra Jean Monnet ad personam ed è Presidente del Punto Europa dell’Unibo, Centro di Eccellenza sull’UE. La sua ultima monografia è L’Europa e gli altri. Le relazioni esterne della Comunità dalle origini al dialogo nord-sud (Il Mulino, 2015)
