The Circulars Sagasta and De Blas: Spain in the “International of Reac- tion” (1871-1872)
This essay focuses on the demonization and persecution of the internationalist movement that has been carried on in Spain after the parisian Commune’s repression in 1871. My analysis is mainly based on the documents of the ministro de la Gobernaciόn Práxedes Mateo Sagasta, and on the responses to the ministerial circular issued by the ministro de Estado Bonifacio De Blas. Through these sources, I intend to address the reception of the First International’s repression both within the Spanish domestic affairs, and in the international environment.
