    Ángel Viñas is emeritus professor of applied economics at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. He regularly collaborates with institutions dedicated to historical memory and with the media such as the newspaper "El País". Known for his research work on the Spanish Civil War, as well as for his diplomatic work, he has, among other positions, held the position of ambassador of the European Union to the United Nations. During his career he has received various awards and recognitions, such as the Grand Cross of the Order of Spanish Civil Merit. Among the numerous publications, we can mention: El oro español en la Guerra Civil (1977); Franco, Hitler y el estallido de la Guerra Civil. Antecedentes y consecuencias (2001); La soledad de la República. El abandono de las democracias y el viraje hacia la Unión Soviética (2006); El escudo de la República.
