This article tackles the representation of the Civil war and Francoism in the narrative of democratic Spain. By analyzing the works of some of the major novísimos novelists, the main features of the development of a literary memory on the civil war are identified. This memory often anticipated topics, problems, and critical issues that subsequently appeared in public debate, especially in later years, when memory grew exaggeratedly and sometimes became abused.
