Romantic poetry and the Peninsular War: echoes of a conflict
This research provides a global overview on the echoes of the Spanish War of Independence (1808-14) on Romantic poetry and on how this issue gives poets and their texts a privileged but challenging mediating role between events and readers. The article also analyzes various poems written by Felicia Hemans, Wordsworth, Walter Scott, Byron and Southey, highlighting the significance of this Anglo-Spanish historical and literary intersection.
