Abstract

Arconovaldo Bonacorsi, a short biography

Arconovaldo Bonacorsi (Bologna, 1898-1962) was a lawyer, a Fascist and an early squadrist. He was a professional of violence, who took part in the massacre of Palazzo D’Accursio (1920) and in the murder of Anteo Zamboni (1926). Executing an order from Mussolini, in 1923 he beat up MP Alfredo Misuri. In 1934 he was expelled from the Fascist National Party because he was a dissident. He had a chance of rehabilitation and of “glory” between August and December 1936 when, passing as “earl Rossi”, he was one of the protagonists of the Civil war in the Balearic Islands. In Mallorca Bonacorsi was military adviser, organized the Phalanx, stirred up terror and much more. Between January and February 1937 in Malaga he was also inspector general of the Command of Voluntary Troops. Later on he was promoted consul general, deputy senior commander of the Voluntary Militia for National Security and inspector general of the Black Shirts in Italian East Africa. In the post-war period he established the National Association of Italian Combatants in Spain and joined Movimento Sociale Italiano, again maintaining a recalcitrant position.
