Italians in the Spanish War, a text by Gaetano Salvemini currently held at the Florence State Archives, was written in the spring of 1937 and possibly used for conferences and in later works. This first draft of issues and ideas is very useful to investigate Salvemini’s years in America, still largely unexplored, or to rediscover the concreteness of this “empirical” historian who was also passionately partisan since, as he himself pointed out in the preface of Mussolini diplomatico, he was not «allowed to remain impartial between truth and falsity».
