The Civil war as a representation of the Francoist film and photo production (1936-1939)
Relying on a corpus of films produced between 1936 and 1939, this article investigates the film and photo propaganda of the Spanish Civil war. This was one of the early modern conflicts, fought with both new media and new narrative models. What emerges from the iconography and symbols of film production is that the Spanish Civil war propaganda relied on few elements and basic concepts. The rhetoric and narrative of events contain the same tópoi repeated again and again: the war as a Cruzada, the family and the demonization of the enemy.
