Language, race and evolution of the Basque identity. How nationalism changes: the case of Partido Nacionalista Vasco
In a century of history Basque nationalism has firmly retained some of its foundational objectives, but it has obviously evolved assimilating new contents and perspectives from the surrounding political environment. The article discusses the nationalist construction of the Basque identity and its changes, focusing attention on such important factors as race and language. Among the change factors, immigration in the Fifties and its social consequences were crucial in the renovation of the ideology and identity of Basque nationalism.
