Ayala’s «return»
The peculiar case of intellectual Francisco Ayala’s return from exile and his integration into Spain’s public life can contribute to analyze the relationship between government policy and the gradual reinsertion of liberal and orteguian thinking as a means to normalize and socialize democratic values. The relationship between the Spanish institutions and Ayala were not always straightforward: this study tries to shed light on the evolution of the link between Ayala and the Spanish state, the type of recognition and consideration he received from late Francoist and Transition governments and on how Ayala, a representative of the generation of ’27, participated in the Spain’s public and intellectual life in a very delicate historical moment.
