Abstract

Luis Arana and the orthodox faction of the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) in the Spanish post-war years (1939-1951)

This article focuses on the post-war transition of orthodox Basque nationalism, which was able to make up for its lack of political influence by building an ara- nista historiographic “memory”. Luis Arana, whose late years are studied in this paper, started this process and turned the theoretical immobilism of Aranism (the expression of an ethno-religious nationalism) into the functional symbolism of a modern mass party.

Marco Pérez ha discusso la propria tesi dottorale, Luis Arana e i veterani di Euzkeldun Batzokija: la corrente ortodossa del nazionalismo basco nel 2012 (tutor il prof. Alfonso Botti) presso il dottorato di storia contemporanea «Federico Chabod» dell’Università di Bologna. Attualmente partecipa all’attività seminariale del Centro de Investigaciones Históricas de la Democracia Española – UNED, occupandosi anche del discorso nazionale nel contesto post-coloniale. Alcuni suoi contributi sono stati pubblicati su “Spagna contemporanea” (2010, n. 38) e su “Historia contemporánea” (2010, n. 41 e 2012, n. 45).
