The absent books. Italian publishing and Spanish literature in the years of Franco
The text tries to offer an overview of Italian translations of Spanish literary works in the years of Francoism. The ideological distance, which characterizes Italy and Spain in such decisive years (1939-1975), creates a gradual lack of interest on the part of Italian publishers towards what is written in Spain. The perception in Italy of Spanish narrative is therefore partial and reveals a considerable difference between the authors who write within the Spanish borders and the authors in exile, as well as demonstrating the absence, at least until 1975, of a programmatic plan of translations.
