Abstract

Women and Men in Transición: Working Women and the Crisis of Workers’ Virility

In the Spanish Transition there have been two simultaneous transformations that have fed back: the consolidation of the model of working women and the crisis of virility. This article will analyze how many working-class women have transited from a “woman of” identity to the identity of working women. They defended their role in the labor market and, in turn, sustained significant changes in the family organization. We will study how the rise of working women has influenced the crisis in the workers’ masculinity model and the way in which changes could take place in homes, such as changes in the family order and early divorces.
