Abstract

Between Discipline and Transgression. Pilar Brabo, Leader and Communist Deputy in the Transition

During the Transition, the emergence of women in political life provoked mixed reactions. Pilar Brabo, the woman who reached the top management positions within the Communist Party and deputy in the Cortes, projected opposing images that referred to strength and fragility, to a modern and sober aesthetic, to a femininity with masculine features. Spontaneously or as part of a strategy that is not without contradictions, it helped to reformulate the communist militant identity and to question the exclusion of women from power.
