Abstract

Tourism Policies in Catalonia during the Second Spanish Republic

As a consequence of the decentralization of tourism policy during the Second Spanish Republic, between 1932 and 1936 an autonomous tourism organization was set up in Catalonia. Thus, several institutions dedicated to the promotion of tourism were created, although they were unstable and most of them lacked economic resources. The first part of the article presents an analysis of the changes in tourism policy, from a monarchical Spain to a republican Spain. The second part of the paper focuses on the Catalan case, delving into its promotional bodies and political discourses related to identity, among others.
