Abstract

The Disintegration in 1939 of the Socialized Shoe Industry in Barcelona

After remembering the importance of the revolutionary socialization or collectivi- zation of the leather industry in Barcelona and its province (1936-1938), this paper presents and analyses the deconcentration process the Francoist authorities realized in 1939 to return the shoemaking businesses to their owners. The investigation, based on little-used archival sources, tries to assess whether there has been any malfeasance and what was really the financial loss after socialization.

Joël Delhom, Université de Bretagne Sud

Joël Delhom es Doctor en Estudios ibéricos e iberoamericanos, profesor titular de la Université de Bretagne-Sud desde 1997 e investigador del equipo ERIMIT- EA 4327 de la Université de Rennes 2 en Francia. Ha publicado numerosos trabajos sobre el anarquismo y el anarcosindicalismo en España y Latinoamérica, desde perspectivas tales como la historia de las ideas, la historia social y cultural o el memorialismo militante. En los últimos años se ha dedicado a la historia sindical de los obreros zapateros de Barcelona entre 1840 y 1940.
