Abstract

New laws for New Times: the Legal and Social Situation of Women in Spain from Late Francoism to the Transition to Democracy

In this study the social transformations, the feminine mobilization, and the legal changes produced in Spain from the sixties to the eighties are analyzed. Changes that improved the situation of women and laid the foundations for the democratic process that will take place after the death of Francisco Franco in November 1975 and that will culminate, from a gender perspective, with the approval of the 1978 Constitution, and the laws of the years 1981 and 1985.

Rosario Ruiz Franco, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid

Rosario Ruiz Franco è profesora titular presso la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Ha conseguito un dottorato in Geografia e Storia (specialità della storia contemporanea) presso l’Università Complutense e un Master in Informazione e documentazione presso l’Università Carlos III di Madrid. Ha effettuato numerosi soggiorni di insegnamento e di ricerca nelle università di: Université Paris Sorbonne Paris IV (Francia), Università degli studi Roma Tre (Italia), Università Cergy-Pontoise, Parigi (Francia), presso l’Università di Bath (Regno Unito) e presso l’Università di Colima (Messico). La sua principale linea di ricerca si concentra sulla storia delle donne e delle relazioni di genere nella Spagna contemporanea, in particolare dal 1931 al 1978.
