The Video-Nou and the Ateneo. Analysis of Two Community Video Experiences in the Barcelona of the Transition
This article reconstructs two moments of a particular project of the Catalan collective Video-Nou (1977-1978): the Intervención vídeo a la campanya Pro-Ateneus. Video-Nou was the first active video collective in Spain. It was born as a result of the meetings of the Center for Art and Communication of Buenos Aires in February 1977, held at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona. It functioned until the winter of 1978, to later become Servei de Vídeo Comunitari, which ended its activities in 1983. Focusing on some events in the city during the period of political transition, as well as on the meetings that the collective had in the district of Nou Barris (Barcelona) and in the comparison between the theoretical premises and the operational methods implemented in this urban context, the problems found from the analysis of the so-called “video-intervention”, that is, a particular way of putting the video implemented from the collective is in circulation.
